14/7 - Canada Cup. To enter see HERE or send and email to Canadacup@f3j.ca freq.,name, email, etc.

12/7 - Pilot list is now online! www.f3j.ca
Some pilots should provide frequencies and not only numbers....

- Power in Canada is 120v/60Hz and the plugs are two flat prongs, parallel to each other  ( | | )  with a third round one if the item is grounded.

The Norwegian team will do as follows:
Hotel: Red Deer Lodge
Email that works  (the email on their internet site is fishy):
brad.meding@chiphospitality.com ( Brad Meding, Revenue Manager)
Red Deer Lodge Hotel & Conference Center
Phone: (403) 357-6326 (direct)
1-800-661-1657 or (403) 346-8841

Flight: We will fly with SAS from Norway to Heathrow UK and then with Air Canada to Calgary on the 29th of July. Back is 9th of August (7200Nkr).
We can take 2x35kg of luggage but needs to confirm the size of boxes.
Norwegians do not need Visum for Canada.

Car: We will rent a car at the airfield. http://www.calgaryairport.com/

Questions asked with answers:

  • Q: What mobile system is available in Canada ?
A: generally TDMA or CDMA but there is GSM service through Fido … I am not sure how well the GSM will reach as it is generally restricted to larger centres – it should be OK in Red Deer
    Extra: From Warren Man-Son-Hing -
Red Deer and the flying site will have GSM coverage thru Rogers - GSM coverage map Rogers

  • Q: Are there WLAN wireless internet access or LAN internet access at your Hotel ? (We need to edit our webpages
    during our stay).
A: I am arranging for wireless internet at the hotel in a banquet room through the week. At the moment the hotel only offers dial-up connections in guest rooms.

  • Q: Do you have advice on rental car for us ? We will need car with either ski-rack on top or big inside to take 2-3, apx.1,8m boxes containg model airplanes. The boxes are light <10kg.
A: We do not have any special arrangements with any rental companies. Most at the airport would have mini-vans (dodge caravan, smaller than a Transport) available for rent.
    See: http://www.calgaryairport.com/

  • Q: How about 35mhz in Canada?
A: (This not confirmed by organizers but..)
35 Mhz will be allowed to use, but nobody can garantee the frequencies will be without distortion.

  • Q: Will the eorganizers provide anchor ?
A: Dont know. Norway will provide own anchor since we might do 75m starts.

  • Q: Will we be hungry ?
A: I just read that the national dish is lobster and that one can buy it for 8€ a kg or 18€ for a complete meal. McDonald also have "McLobster" so Norway will not stay hungry !!!!

Other good stories:

- Turkey have actually some good pilots and have had a lot of events lately to be better. Maybe they will surprice us ? Pitty their website is not in English because it is great!! www.soarist.com
- Czech's send the poorest team ever (though some of them are very good!!!). Not the 3 top pilots are going but 5th, 6th and 11th of the qualification, Jaroslav Vostřel, Martin Rajšner (2nd Junior EC 2003), Jiří Tůma.
- Norway have lost Inge Balswick that has been with us since the first WC. The team is pretty new although Jo have been at WC 2 times and Junior Alexander was there also last time. Maybe they have grown ?
- Denmark. A fresh team with Peter as a fresh guy on the website www.F3J.dk , Ole Blomseth has been around for many years and Klaus the newcomer that they might have high hopes for. Jesper the F3B pilot that did wrong with flying Corrado last WC are not there anymore.
- Sweden will not enter a good team but seem to enter two men that wants to feel it to the bones.
- Slovakia - Think they will enter and Jaro Muller has good hopes on his new Elita BJ (Espada). I think many pilots will have a fun time in the high altitude. I practice a lot on 800m above sealevel and some airfoils... It
can be fun.
- Germany - Tobias is now a Senior and it can be fun. Philip Kolb the smiling German is again with us. And it is cool to see the juniors in Germany getting really good. Top 3 places in the German Championship were won by: Juniors... The danish guys were there. LINK.
- USA have a strong team I think. They showed off at "F3J in the rockies" and had some good times but the scores shows also problems in nailing those landings. Still I think we can count USA in at the top again. Lets hope this WC is about thermalling - not landings...
- Brazil will go!
- Swizz guys going! They were in Belgium last weekend and all were in Flyoff (Dutch guy beat them..)
- Team Croatia plans to attend WC 2004 in Red Deer.
Senior Team will be same as the Team on last two WC's i.e. Pecinar
Sasa, Kmoch Damir and Kosir Damir.
Croatian Junior Team will be for the 1st time on WC. Junior pilots:
Hucaljuk Josip, Hucaljuk Arijan, Lehkec Nikola.
- The Italian team have started a new website for the WC. The forum is going to be updated during WC. Web: www.avs-rc.it
- More ?

Other ?
- Probably over 60% of the starting field have a Pike Superior or Tsunami ready.. hmmm maybe the best pilot wins instead of model ? Maybe we should start "single class" championship as they do in sailing etc ?

Norwegian jackets arrived (sorry it was to big for my wife)
