Istanbul Cup 2012

Sunday 22.april 2012
Fantastic warm day with difficult weather and f3food just how we like it. We flew another 3 rounds and then 2 finals. Aril climbed list quite well to a 17, Stig Magne to 25 and Jojo made the finals with safe scores in the last rounds. First final and philip took a full launch while Jojo and Larry took 'bank and jank'. All but Karel flew full time. Second final and started to be more difficult but again Jojo and Larry took fast launches while Philip took a second or two longer. All 3 joined up in the back (sorry dont know the story on si many others as this is mostly told me). Jojo started home a bit earlier than the other two as he felt many thermals had passed. He was wrong nd found nothing like so many others. All felt down but Philip that scratched home just and won the event. He and his team really know this field now! Medium ballast was the deal in the finals even if we flew further than eyesight... The thermals just did not lift you up if you were heavy. Thanks for a wonderful event Turkey and Soarist team.
1st Philip Kolb, TUR (Prestige), 2nd Larry Jolly, USA (Prestige), 3rd Reinhard Vallant, GER (Prestige), 4th Eser Kismir, RNC (Explorer2 3,5-3,8), 5th Jo Grini, NOR (Pike Perfection), 6th Olexander Petrenko, UKR (Maxa), 7th Karel Koudelka, CZE (Superstarlight). The Balkan Cup was won by Philip Kolb (that got his Turkish licence yesterday!!!) with Murat Esibatir in 2nd and Mustafa Koc in 3rd.

Final scores

Saturday 21.april 2012
We had lots of rain so only flew 3 rounds but sunny and warm most o the time. Jojo lost 20sec last flight but are in 7th place with 30p down to larry (7 pilots to finals). Philip and reinhart with 3000p. 3rd oleschenko ukr, 4th serhat aliskan cyp,5th eser, 6th karel. Very difficult and windy /calm /windy /calm.... 46 pilots. In the morning new matrixes was released and all teams are very happy with yet another F3food event with a good touch of hard competition. A couple of models hooked the line and a few got smashed by lines or other models in the sidewind launching. Sometimes line against line should qualify or reflight.

Results after competition day 1

Practice day in Saray, Turkey. Nice weather and a lot of thermals. Wind picked up during the day and for a short while it was almost at the FAI limit. So full ballast was nice but one could follow the thermals and get high if you picked th eright ones. Fantastic food and site with grass as far as you can see. Big tents and all is fixed for us. Only downside is that some teams are only 3 members and that will be a huge problem tomorrow. Norway will struggle but hopefully we can help the North Cyprus team and they help us. Making matrixes and helping out small teams is an issue in Eurotour.
